5. Liver problems? Cloves may be too strong
Eugenol is a potent substance and in high amounts can be toxic to the liver, especially if there is already a disease such as hepatitis or fatty liver. In diagnosed liver problems, clove oil should be avoided, and consumption of the spice itself should be limited. Even in healthy people, it is important to use the oil in moderation and only according to recommendations.
6. Do you suffer from ulcers? Cloves can irritate the stomach.
Although known for aiding digestion, cloves are not always gentle on the stomach. For people with ulcers or gastritis, they can worsen symptoms. Clove oil is too aggressive for sensitive mucous membranes – it can increase acidity and burning, making the pain more difficult to control.
