Preheat oven to 160-180°C (320-356°F).
Butter a loaf pan.
In a large saucepan, combine the water, sugar, mixed dried fruit, butter, mixed spice, and baking soda.
Bring the mixture to a boil and simmer for 5 minutes. Stir occasionally.
Let the boiled mixture cool.
Once cooled, gradually add the beaten eggs and self-raising flour.
