Paleness. When you have an iron deficiency, the inside of your lips, gums, and eyelids may appear less red than normal.
Low immune defenses. Iron deficiency also negatively affects the immune system, making it less effective and causing us to get sick more often.
Palpitations. Those suffering from this deficiency may experience palpitations or an irregular heartbeat for a few seconds or minutes.
Cravings for non-food substances. Strange as it may seem, iron deficiency can also cause cravings for non-food substances, such as paint, clay, sand, or even dirt. This is called pica and is also common during pregnancy.
If you suffer from an iron deficiency, consult your doctor to find out the cause and treat it appropriately.
